Buddhism in Pakistan took root some 2,300 years ago under the Mauryan king Ashoka. Buddhism has played a major role in the history of Pakistan — the land of which over time has been part of predominantly Buddhist empires such as the Indo-Greek Kingdom, the Kushan Empire, the Maurya Empire of Ashoka, the Pala Empire.

In 2012, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) indicated that the contemporary Buddhist population of Pakistan was minuscule with 1,492 adult holders of national identity cards (CNICs). The total population of Buddhists is therefore unlikely to be more than a few thousand. In 2017, number of Buddhist voters was stated to be 1,884 and they are mostly concentrated in Sindh and Punjab.

The film is about the Buddhists sites of Orissa, including Dhauli, Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri, Udaigiri, Langudi Hill, Kaima and the villages of Naupatna and Maniabandha, where active Buddhist worship continues since ancient times. (The film covers sites from 3rd century BCE till the present).

กว่าจะมาถึงปี.. พุทธศักราช 400 ศาสนาพุทธ ได้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งใหญ่ โดยมีการแบ่งแยกนิกายต่างๆ ออกไปมากกว่า 20 นิกาย สำหรับคลิปนี้ จะพาไปดูเหตุการณ์สำคัญบางช่วงบางตอน ที่เป็นการเกิดขึ้นของ พระพุทธรูป ..การเกิดขึ้นของพุทธ ฝ่ายมหายาน เหตุการณ์เหล่านั้น เกิดขึ้นได้อย่างไร

โดยการเดินทางในตอนนี้ จะเริ่มต้นกันที่ เมืองมธุรา เมืองซึ่งในอดีต ถือเป็นแหล่งสำคัญ ในการผลิตประติมากรรมพระพุทธรูป ที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังไปทั่วชมพูทวีป และที่เมืองเล็กๆ ริมแม่น้ำยมุนา แห่งนี้.. ยังเป็นบ่อเกิดของพระพุทธรูป ที่มีศิลปะการสร้างในรูปแบบอินเดียแท้ โดยเป็นพระพุทธรูป ที่มีความแตกต่างไปจากยุคแรก ซึ่งชาวกรีก เป็นผู้สร้างไว้ ในการเดินเรื่องตอนนี้ จะไปกันที่พิพิธภัณฑ์มธุรา สัมผัสงานสร้างสรรค์ พระพุทธรูป ของชาวมธุรายุคต่างๆ ที่มีการขุดค้นพบ พร้อมยังมีคำแนะนำ ถึงจุดเด่นสำคัญ ๆ ที่ชี้ให้เห็นความแตกต่างของศิลปะในแต่ละยุค และกล่าวกันว่า ตลอดยุคคุปตะ พระพุทธรูปที่สร้างขึ้น มีความงดงามยิ่งกว่าในยุคใด ๆ และหลังจากยุคคุปตะ ผ่านพ้นไป การสร้างพระพุทธรูป ที่มธุราก็หยุดลง.. แม้ว่าช่างมธุรา จะยังมีการสร้างงานศิลปะสืบต่อกัน แต่กลับเป็นการสร้างเทวรูป ของศาสนาฮินดู และศาสนาเชน เป็นส่วนใหญ่

ครั้งนี้ ยังพาไปรู้จักเรื่องราวของ พระราชาที่ทำนุบำรุงศาสนาพุทธ จนรุ่งเรืองสูงสุดในอินเดียอีกยุคหนึ่ง จนถูกกล่าวขานว่าเป็น พระเจ้าอโศกมหาราช องค์ที่ 2 และสิ่งหนึ่งที่พระองค์ได้กระทำ คือ การเป็นองค์อุปถัมภ์ การสังคายนาพระธรรมวินัย ของคณะสงฆ์ ที่แยกตัวออกมาจากเถรวาท การสังคายนาในครั้งนั้น มีการเขียนพระไตรปิฎกขึ้น เป็นภาษาสันสกฤต และถือเป็นจุดกำเนิดของคณะสงฆ์ นิกายมหายาน อย่างเต็มตัว

จากศิลปะพระพุทธรูปยุคต่าง ๆ ในตอนนี้ จะพาไปดูความงดงามที่เกิดขึ้น ในหมู่ถ้ำเอลโลรา กับงานแกะสลักพระพุทธรูปองค์สำคัญ ที่มีชื่อเสียงของ ฝ่ายพุทธมหายาน โดยเป็นงานแกะสลัก พระโพธิสัตอวโลกิเตศวร 2 พระองค์ องค์แรก คือ เทพแห่งความปราณี ที่มาในรูปพระปัทมปาณี และมีเทพแห่งฝน ที่ยืนเคียงคู่กันเสมอ ก็คือ พระวัชรปาณี

นอกจากนี้ ยังมีเรื่องราวของการค้นพบ นาลันทามหาวิหาร สถานที่สำคัญ ซึ่งถือเป็นศูนย์กลาง ทางด้านการศึกษาศาสนาพุทธ ที่อดีตถูกกล่าวขานว่า เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งแรกของโลก สถานที่แห่งนี้ เกิดขึ้นได้อย่างไร ในตอนนี้ จะพาไปดูสถานที่จริง ที่ได้มีการขุดค้นพบ และจากบันทึกเรื่องราว การเดินทางของ พระถังซัมจั๋ง ที่จะพาไปพบกับ การจำลองภาพ 3 มิติ มหาวิหาร โบราณสถาน มหาวิทยาลัยนาลันทา ย้อนกลับไป ในพุทธศตวรรษที่ 12 สถานที่แห่งนี้ มีความเจริญรุ่งเรืองสูงสุด เต็มไปด้วยวัด อาราม วิหาร และมีพระสงฆ์ ที่เดินทางมาศึกษาหาความรู้ จากประเทศต่าง ๆ หลายหมื่นรูป ...แล้วเหตุใด มหาวิทยาลัยพุทธศาสนา ที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดของโลก กลับถูกลืมเลือนหายไป จากชาวพุทธเป็นเวลาหลายร้อยปี ติดตามเรื่องราวทั้งหมดนี้ได้ในตอนนี้

He works as an independent film maker, Producer & Commissioning editor. His films have won more than 170 international and forty national awards from the President of India. He was Chairman of the Jury for the awards during their 50th anniversary.

This film traces back India's historical relations with South East Asia as seen through the prism of maritime contact between the two regions. The film travels through 10 countries and explores the growth of port towns in India that played a critical role in the exchange of nutmeg, pepper and cloves to the highly prized Gujarati textiles. The film also shows how Indian traditions have become an integral part of South East Asia. This includes exchange of mythological epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as the influence on architecture as seen in Borobudur and Angkor Wat. The film pays tribute to the rich and varied exchanges between the two regions and their evolution through the years.

The earliest Buddhist art appeared in India. This lecture focuses on religious architecture, especiallly the stupa, and on images of the Buddha.
