Buddhism in Pakistan took root some 2,300 years ago under the Mauryan king Ashoka. Buddhism has played a major role in the history of Pakistan — the land of which over time has been part of predominantly Buddhist empires such as the Indo-Greek Kingdom, the Kushan Empire, the Maurya Empire of Ashoka, the Pala Empire.

In 2012, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) indicated that the contemporary Buddhist population of Pakistan was minuscule with 1,492 adult holders of national identity cards (CNICs). The total population of Buddhists is therefore unlikely to be more than a few thousand. In 2017, number of Buddhist voters was stated to be 1,884 and they are mostly concentrated in Sindh and Punjab.

The film is about the Buddhists sites of Orissa, including Dhauli, Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri, Udaigiri, Langudi Hill, Kaima and the villages of Naupatna and Maniabandha, where active Buddhist worship continues since ancient times. (The film covers sites from 3rd century BCE till the present).

Rajiv Mehrotra has twice addressed plenary sessions at The World Economic Forum at Davos and was nominated a Global Leader for Tomorrow by them. He was a Judge of the Templeton Prize for Spirituality and serves on the Boards of several institutions.

He works as an independent film maker, Producer & Commissioning editor. His films have won more than 170 international and forty national awards from the President of India. He was Chairman of the Jury for the awards during their 50th anniversary.

In this hard to find documentary, the path of Buddhism is followed, a peaceful journey which can lead to inner calm and happiness.

While it was the predominant faith of the region until about the 11th century, Buddhism is now the third largest religion in Bangladesh with about 0.7% of population adhering to Theravada Buddhism. Over 65% of the Buddhist population is concentrated in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, where Buddhism the predominant faith of the Chakma, Marma, Tanchangya and other Jumma people, while the remaining 35% of the population are from the Bengali Buddhist community. Buddhist communities are present in the urban centers of Bangladesh, particularly Chittagong and Dhaka.

In the Bamiyan Valley north of Kabul the two largest statues of Buddha on the planet were carved in the third century. David Adams was the last Westerner to exhaustively film them before they were blown up in 2001.

Afghanistan is not so much a country as a series of shifting borders. A place with no easily definable physical or civil boundaries. A place where war is an everyday fact of life. A place where more children will learn to use a gun than will go to school. About 1.5 million have been killed during the past 20 years of war. Perhaps another 4 million have fled. Every major road has been torn apart by tank treads. Almost every major building left standing has been blown full of holes.

中國第一個受戒出家的人：朱士行。朱士行（203—282），三國時高僧，法號八戒，祖居潁川(今禹州市)。魏齊王曹芳嘉平二年(250)，印度律學沙門曇河迦羅到洛陽譯經，在白馬寺設戒壇，朱士行首先登壇受戒，成為我國歷史上漢家沙門第一人。公元260年，他從雍州(今長安縣西北)出發，越過流沙到於闐國(今新疆和田壹帶)，抄錄《大品般若經》的梵本，後被弟子送回洛陽白馬寺。

鳩摩羅什，原籍天竺，生於西域龜茲國（今新疆庫車縣）。七歲出家，十二歲開壇講法，二十一歲被龜茲奉為國師。東晉時後秦高僧，著名的佛經翻譯家。譯經改直譯為意譯，使佛經不再晦澀難懂。東晉後秦弘始三年（公元401年），姚興派人迎至長安從事譯經，成為我國一大譯經家。率弟子僧肇等八百余人，譯出《摩訶般若波羅蜜多心經》、《妙法蓮華經》、《維摩詰經》、《佛說阿彌陀經》、《金剛經》等經和《中論》、《百論》、《十二門論》和《大智度論》等論，共七十四部，三百八十四卷。羅什其人生平，頗具傳奇，年少精進，又博聞強記，後逢亂世，被迫破戒，甚至娶妻生子。羅什為人仁厚，待人誠懇，空虛我見，善循循善誘，佛行事業，終日不倦。公元401年，後秦姚興為延請鳩摩羅什弘法傳教，而發兵後涼，大敗涼軍，迎鳩摩羅什入長安，並拜奉為國師。

道安，是東晉時代傑出的佛教學者，確立戒規，主張僧侶以「釋」為姓，為後世所遵行。道安綜合整理了前代般若、禪法、戒律等系佛學，遂使原本零散的佛學思想，得以較完整的面目呈現於世，因此，道安大師被視為漢晉間佛教思想的集大成者。又因道安大師出生時手臂多長一塊皮肉(皮手釧)，時人即稱之為"印手菩薩"。

During 13th to 14th century, Mongol Empire expanding rapidly throughout Eurasia, devastated many great Empires. Newly established Delhi Sultanate (ca 1229) manage to thwart Mongol invasions from the beginning, after Mongol Empire subdued kingdom of Kashmir in 1225 CE. For the next century, Mongol Empire attempted to subdue Delhi Sultanate. During 13-14th century, Delhi Sultanate Expanded toward Southern Kingdoms while defensive toward mongol incursion from the West. Delhi Sultanate manage to keep it sovereignty from the Mongols for centuries until it was conquered by Mughals in 1526.

The Mongol invasion of Java was a military effort made by Kublai Khan nominally the great Khan of Mongol empire and founcer of Yuan Dynasty, to invade Java, an island in modern Indonesia. In 1293, he sent a large invasion fleet to Java with 1000 ships and 20,000 to 30,000 soldiers. This was a punitive expedition against King Kertanegara of Singhasari Kingdom, who had refused to pay tribute to the Yuan and maimed one of its envoy. However, the invasion ended with failure for the Mongols, and resulted in the establishment of Majapahit Empire as thassalocratic power based on East Java from 14-16th century.
