Ken Arok dibesarkan di dunia hitam oleh Lembong, perampok, yang menemukannya di kuburan ketika masih bayi. Karena tingkah lakunya yang keterlaluan, Ken Arok diusir lalu hidup bersama Bango Samparan. Inipun tidak berlangsung lama, karena terjadi keributan dengan istri Samparan. Karena Ken Arok sering merampok kiriman upeti kerajaan, ia menjadi buronan. Di tengah kelananya, ia bertemu pendeta Loh Gawe yang banyak memberikan ilmu kepemimpinan.

Sementara itu, Akuwu Tumapel, Tunggul Ametung berhasil menculik Ken Dedes untuk dijadikan isteri. Atas jasa Loh Gawe, Ken Arok dapat diterima menjadi prajurit di Tumapel. Sejalan dengan kariernya di istana, begitu Ken Arok melihat Ken Dedes, ia langsung jatuh cinta. Niat buruk untuk membunuh Tunggul Ametung pun muncul di benaknya. Karena Loh Gawe tidak setuju dengan niatnya, Ken Arok meminta restu ayah angkatnya, Bango Samparan. Maka ia lalu memesan keris kepada Empu Gandring.

Kecewa atas pesanan keris yang tidak kunjung selesai, Ken Arok marah dan membunuh Empu Gandring dengan keris yang dipesannya. Sebelum meninggal, Gandring sempat mengutuk Ken Arok, bahwa ia juga akan mati oleh keris itu. Di istana, Ken Arok menitipkan kerisnya kepada Kebo Ijo, perwira sombong yang suka pamer dan mengatakan bahwa keris itu adalah miliknya sendiri. Suatu malam, Ken Arok mencuri kerisnya dari Kebo Ijo lalu membunuh Tunggul Ametung. Rakyat Tumapel gempar, dan menuduh Kebo Ijo sebagai pembunuhnya. Niat Ken Arok mengawini Ken Dedes tercapai sudah, bahkan menggantikan kedudukan Tunggul Ametung dan mengembangkan kerajaan. Ken Arok tetap tidak terhindar dari kutukan Empu Gandring.

In a nunnery in the high desert mountains of Mustang, a revered abbess dies, leaving signs that she will be reborn in the precious human form once more. Prayers and rituals must be done to help her consciousness into its next rebirth, but the nunnery coffers are empty. The senior nuns decide that the only way out is to retrieve money loaned out by the nunnery.
The two nuns assigned this mission are Karma, a free-spirited nun, and her opposite, Sonam, a more by the book nun.

This documentary is extracted from a series of films make by NHK and France 5 TV channels covering the history of the cultures of the Eurasian landmass and the silk roads that run through it.

This film focuses of Gandhāra, which straddles what is now Pakistan and Afghanistan (around the Swat and Kabul Valleys) and the emergent Buddhist culture that arose there just before the Common Era.

The film covers the rise and the fall of the religion in the area it covers, and has some interesting interviews with academics working on the material and remains, including Prof. Richard Salomon, an expert of the Gandhārian language.

We also see something of the Shöyen collection, one of the largest collections of Gandhāran texts in the world, and see how computer imaging is helping to reassemble the texts, while preserving the originals.

The film shows how the meeting of the Greaco cultures in Bactria and the Indian cultures represented by Buddhism gave rise to the first Buddhist statues, and a truly cosmopolitan culture that stood at the centre of the transmission of Buddhism.

The narration is in English, and is evidently a translation of either the French or the Japanese version, but unfortunately the interviews have no sub-titles, so unless you know the languages used part of the film will be lost.

The history of water conservation in India dates back many millennia. A good example is the Kanheri Caves, where local artisans converted an entire mountain system into a giant water conservatory. Sanrachna explores how the architects of ancient India used and manoeuvred the local terrain to save rain water effectively.

This videos gives you a sample of what it is like to be a monk at the Papae Meditation Retreat in Chiang Mai Thailand. The buddhist monk's daily schedule consists of going on alms round in the village, doing our chores as a mindfulness practice, meditation, and chanting. The monk's life is small paced and we have time to reflect and contemplate.I've always said that this life is "simple, but not easy." Taking the time to train one's mind is not easy.
